When Dervla McDonnell, a senior at St. Paul’s School for Girls, wants to chat with some of her classmates in her advanced placement computer science class, she doesn’t meet them at the mall or set up a study session in the Brooklandville school.
Instead, the Timonium resident might turn to Skype, or Facebook or Twitter.
After all, some of those classmates are in Connecticut, Georgia or even a foreign country, taking the same class with St. Paul’s students through the Online School for Girls — a Web-based program that allows students, and teachers, to conduct classes from a distance.
“In any given class, the girls are from around the world, and around the states,” said SPSG Head of School Monica Gillespie. “It’s pretty incredible.”
