Art and Design: Spiderman
Offered: Fall Semester 2012
Prerequisite: Student must be enrolled in at least ninth grade
Art & Design: Spiderman explores the fundamental elements of art and design with members of the design team from Broadway’s Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark. The course runs 12 weeks and offers students the unique opportunity to spend a semester working with Broadway’s top professionals and teaching artists toward gaining a richer understanding of the creative process as it applies to all aspects of art, design and creative thinking. Students begin by learning the building blocks of design – form, color, line, scale and context – through exercises that strengthen creativity and bold thought. They then apply these fundamentals in their own design process of assessing the artistic, thematic and practical needs of a selected scene and drawing from various sources of inspiration to create a unified design scheme for a scenic environment. Students will have the option to share their work in graphic or video formats. At the end of this course, students will have conceptualized and created their own scenic designs and gained a comprehensive technique for solving designs of all varieties.
