Get a Jump on College Essay Writing this Summer with OSG

Students looking to get a jump on the college essay writing process this summer have the opportunity to do just that with the new OSG Extension course Writing the College Essay. In this course, experienced teachers Linda Noll from Miss Porter’s School and Lisa Pritchard from Buffalo Seminary help guide students through the process of drafting college essays for the Common Application. Students will get feedback from the course instructors and will give feedback to their peers throughout this four-week course. Connelly School of the Holy Child and St. Catherine’s School Join OSG

Welcome Roland Park Country School to OSG

Registration Open for Consortium – High Enrollment Already

Registration for summer 2012, summer professional development and 2012-2013 school year offerings has opened for OSG Consortium schools. In just the first few days of registration, enrollment has surpassed the total enrollment for the first year. AP Psychology is, once again, proving to be a popular course — one of the two sections of AP Psychology is almost full already!

OSG Consortium Schools are reminded that they must register students for school-year enrollments, though students can register themselves for Summer 2012 courses.

OSG and GOA Release Whitepaper that Defines “Online Independent Schools”

The Online School for Girls and the Global Online Academy have released a joint Whitepaper that defines “Online Independent Schools.”

“It is important for independent schools to define their space within the larger field of online learning as different from either for-profit or university work,” said Brad Rathgeber, Director of the Online School for Girls.

Three Schools Join the OSG Consortium

The Online School for Girls is excited to announce that three schools joined the OSG Consortium today: Convent of the Sacred Heart (San Francisco, California), Yeshiva of Los Angeles Girls High School, and St. Mary’s Academy (Engelwood, Colorado). ”Innovative schools around the country and world understand that online education can expand opportunities for students and provide students with needed life-skills,” said Brad Rathgeber, the OSG Director. “We are excited to have Convent of the Sacred Heart, Yeshiva Girls High School, and St. Mary’s Academy as part of our program. We know that each school will add greatly to the development of OSG, and we are looking forward to having students from these schools in our courses.”

Registration for Online School for Girls courses in the summer of 2012 and the 2012-2013 school year opens on March 1, 2012 for students at OSG consortium schools and applications open on April 1, 2012 for other students. Welcome Santa Catalina School – The 60th OSG Network School

The Online School for Girls is excited to announce today that Santa Catalina School in Monterey, California has joned the Online School for Girls as an affiliate school. Santa Catalina is the 60th school in the OSG consortium.

“We are excited to have Santa Catalina join us in our efforts to bring new opportunities to girls,” said Brad Rathgeber, the Director of the Online School for Girls. ”Santa Catalina has made a commitment to preparing girls for an increasingly international 21st century culture, of which online educational opportunities are an essential part.”

Karen Douse Appointed Academic Dean

The Online School for Girls, a non-profit online school consortium, is happy to announce that Karen Douse has been appointed Academic Dean for the School.

“Karen has been a national leader in independent school education, girls’ education, and education with technology for many years,” said Brad Rathgeber, the Director of the Online School for Girls. ”From STEM education to best practices using technology in the classroom to online education, Karen has consistently led the way for independent schools and girls’ schools. She is a true visionary in the field.”

For the past twenty years, Mrs. Douse has been a leader at the Harpeth Hall School in Nashville, Tennessee, serving as the Director of Library and Information Services for the last twelve years. In that role, Mrs. Douse began one of the nation’s first one-to-one laptop programs in the country and started a collaborative, national Think Tank on STEM education for girls.

Mrs. Douse is a past member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) 21st Century Curriculum/Technology Task Force and is a frequent presenter at national conferences, including NAIS, the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools (NCGS), and the International Society of Technology Educators (ISTE).

“The Online School for Girls has helped to define what a high-quality, student-centered online courses are over the last two years,” said Mrs. Douse. ”I am excited to work with the creative and innovative teachers at the Online School for Girls to continue the efforts of bringing the best of independent, girls’ education online.”

Flint Hill School Joins OSG
